We believe that safe and affordable housing is a fundamental human right. Furthermore, we think people should feel a sense of community and pride regarding their home. These guiding principles shaped the form and programming of this multi-unit residential project located in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The building was designed to address more than the basics of dwelling such as eating and sleeping, but also provide an environment to enjoy and thrive.
Every aspect of the project has been carefully designed around ideas of community, security, and a sense of pride while also keeping a mindful eye on affordability. We feel housing should be seen as an investment, not an expense. This multi-unit building is intended support and help those most vulnerable and impacted by the current housing crisis. The embracing courtyard design will be filled with natural light, greenspace, and gathering spaces that provide occupants with the ability to interact, rest, and enjoy the outdoors while also feeling a sense of security and community.
To keep project costs down, while simultaneously increasing build quality and efficiency, this project was designed to be constructed using prefabrication and/ or modular construction practices. This project aims to redefine public perception regarding low-income housing and encourages the engagement of the community at large with the individuals most in need within our city.
